Tent City, 2009
Wood, acrylic paint, canvas, nylon rope, plaster, 29x41x45 inches
Tent Cities house soldiers, evacuees,
refugees, protesters, the homeless. It is shown the most important
factor in surviving the elements is shelter. The tent represents
fun and adventure, but is also a state of desperation for many. Many
economically-induced tent cities have formed recently: Portland's "Dignity Village", Sacramento's "Hope
City", Reno, Seattle, Los Angeles, Providence, Nashville, San
DIego, Fresno, St. Petersburg. Does one build high-density affordable
housing... or perhaps just a giant tent to cover us all? |
